Giving life
We often take the gift of life for granted — strutting aimlessly through every day. Only when we find something worth dying for can we be truly alive.
And that is what Manikako’s short film “Gift of Life” storifies through the robot Blitz and doll Lily: love and the self-sacrifice that comes with it.
The two-minute video, produced in partnership with battery company Energizer, bagged the People’s Voice award in the so-called “Oscars of the internet”, the Webby Awards. It was the only Filipino-made entry that made it to the online commercials category, competing against four other nominees including those from Google and Microsoft.
Filipino non-profit organization Manikako, which teaches impoverished children doll-making to help them “rediscover creativity, resourcefulness, and environmental responsibility” to improve their lives, claimed that the online commercial resulted in “a 200% increase in volunteer requests.”
Engaging in advocacies like this is analogous to giving life to the hopeless. •
