From the depths
After a Japanese-inspired lunch, I finally found the courage to pick up my Oscar Wilde book and continue reading where I left off.
I couldn’t finish De Profundis in one seating because Wilde’s words make me feel emotional. It took me some time to muster enough courage to go at it again.
Then, I was stuck with this phrase: the beauty that in all lives lies dormant and may be brought to light.
It led me to reflect on how I have been as a person. Honestly, I have changed in the recent weeks — I’ve become more vocal at work, I’ve been more at ease in expressing my opinion, and yet I seem to also be more irritatable and easy to anger, more judgmental in a way.
I am not sure if I am living according to what my ideation of myself is: to leave people better than I found them.
It’s not even about making a good impression. I don’t do what I do because I am driven by the need to please others. I have come to terms with this. I am more of a WYSIWYG person — what you see is what you get. If I don’t like you, I won’t bother talking to you unless if it’s for something important.
What impact am I leaving to people whom I have met? Strangers I chanced upon the taxi bay while waiting for a ride back home? Former colleagues I only get to meet for dinner once in a while? People I interact with only for a story I am making?
