But why can’t I say goodbye?
I can still remember all the times I spent thinking about how to say goodbye. I can’t seem to find the right words. I don’t even know if the right words exist. I can’t seem to find the right way to do it. And I don’t even know if there is a right way to do it. I have no idea about the right time and place, if ever a right time and place truly exists. I’m running out of all sorts of reasons. I don’t know what to do. I am just certain of one thing: I just have to do it.
More than once, I asked myself if I could. I know I could. But somehow, I felt like I couldn’t. I know I should. And though I couldn’t, because I should, I would.
I used to ask a few of my closest friends about it. As if they had already seen the question coming, as if they talked and planned their answer even before I thought of asking them, unanimously they said.. Impossible.
It’s like Samson without Delilah.
It’s like Romeo without Juliet.
It’s like Popeye without the Spinach.
Nor Popeye without Olive.
It’s like a constellation with no star.
And the stars with no moon.
It’s like Jelena without EraserHeads.
And EraserHeads without the fans Jelena.
It’s like Pampam without Tengteng.
It’s like Shasha without her utangs.
It’s like Partner Bespren without his Bespren Partner.
It’s like me without David Cook.
It’s like me without.. that.
Last night, at midnight, as I happened to listen on the radio, I decided to finally give up my passion for David Cook’s musical talent. I just thought that if I managed to give up my love for David Cook, I’d find it easier to give that up.
But why can’t I just say goodbye? Why can’t I live it all behind?
I guess, Dyina’s right. I just have to deal with it. There’s no escape. •
